Maybe you just need to put the times sign in?

Here's one way around it.

5(-2)^4 = (5)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2)

That should give you 80.

Here is a lesson on powers of a negative number:

It's the same thing as positives, except you have to consider the negatives.

SO:

-2^1 = -2, because -2 * 1 = -2,

-2^2 = 4, because the negatives cancel out,

-2^3 = -8, because you are multiplying 4 from the previous one by -2,

-2^4 = 16, because the negatives cancel out again.

So (-2)^4 = 16

And 16 * 5 as you hopefully know

= 80

You answers are not all correct Pasplox  :(

-2^1 = -2, because -1*2 ^ 1 =-1*2=-2

-2^2 = -1*2^2= -4

-2^3 = -1*2^3= -8

-2^4 = -1*2*4= -16

ALL the above answers are negative!

BUT

So (-2)^4 REALLY DOES EQUAL  16

The brackets make all the difference :)
