Solve:

 

|3x-2|=8,

|x+1|=1.

 

I think We get two equations |3x|=6 and |x|=2. Although, I'm not sure why we aren't adding to both sides, but rather keeping the signs the same. By this, I mean why aren't the equations |3x|=10 and |x|=0? Also, how do I continue?

It isn't impossible since it is the absolute value.
