Re-arrange the second equation to get  x =2+3y    and substitute this value of 'x' into the first equation:

 

2(2+3y) + 3y = 13

4 + 6y + 3y = 13

9y = 9

y = 1       Substitute this value of y into one of the equations to solve for 'x'

 

x = 2+ 3y

  = 2 + 3(1) = 5       x,y =  5,1
