1.08^5 X 200,000=1.4693280768 X 200,000=293,866, the projected population of Tacoma in 2020.

***I am assuming that it is growing 8% every year from the starting point, not a new 8% of the previous year****

You take 8% of the origanlly point which is 200,000.

You find that by solving for X

      X         =     8

200,000         100

8 * 200,000 = 100X      ( I cross multipled across the equal sign and the * means to multiply)

X = 8 * 200,000            (divid by 100 so that the X is alone)

           100

Then the number you get you times by 20 because that is the number of years that will go by, then add 200,000 your starting point.

200,000 + 20X = answer
