At 8:00 a.m. one morning two boats leave from opposite banks of the river. Each boat is traveling at a constant speed but the two boats may not be traveling at the same speed. When the boats pass each other they are 800 yards from the eastern bank of the river. Each boat finishes crossing, turns around , and heads back to its original starting point. When they pass each other on the return journey they are 400 yards from the western bank of the river. How wide is the river?
