The area of a square is 40 inches squared. If the length of each side of the square is 2x in, what is the value of x?

We have.....

side^2 = Area    .....  so.....

(2x)^2  = 40  simplify

4x^2 = 40     divide by 4 on each side

x^2 = 10     take the square root of both sides

x = √10 in.
