The Base Of A Traingle Is 6 Cm More Than The Height. If The Area Of The Traingle Is 140 Square Cm, What Is The Base?

Area of a triangle =   1/2 base * height         base = 6 + h 

        140              =  1/2  (6+h) * h

         280 = h^2 + 6h

           h^2 + 6h - 280 = 0    Quadratic Formula or factoring shows   h = 14      so base = 20

 

       (h-14)(h+20) = 0      h =   14  or  -20 (throw out)
