The Big Screamer Coaster carries 92 people altogether. Some of its cars carry 4 passengers, and the rest carry 6 passengers. There are 3 more 4 passenger cars then 6 passenger cars. How many 4 passenger cars are there? Anybody have a clue?
There are 8 6-passenger cars that can carry 8 X 6=48 people
Therefore, there are 8 + 3=11, 4-passenger cars that can carry: 11 X 4=44 people,
Because: 48 + 44=92 people in total.

Let x be the number of 4 passenger cars.......then x- 3 is the number of 6 passenger cars....and we have
4x + 6(x - 3) = 92 simplify
4x + 6x - 18 = 92
10x - 18 = 92 add 18 to both sides
10x = 110 divide both sides by 10
x = 11 and this is the number of 4 passenger cars
