The directions are:

State whether the slope of a line containing each pair of points in positive, negative, or zero. Explain your reasoning. Do not graph the points or calculate the slope.

(4, -6) and (5, 8)

 

(1, 4) and (2, -1)

As you visualize the two points on a graph, consider which way the line points as you proceed from left to right.

The first pair (1,4) occurs before (2,-1). You can see this from the x-values. As you go from the first point to the 2nd, the y-values change from 4 to -1. This is a negative slope.

I will let you do the second pair.
