I think this is how it goes!:

 

The base of the triangle is:

10 - 6 =4 meters

The height of the triangle is the same as the side of the square=6 meters

Area= 6 x 4/2 =12 square meters.

Base length = 10 -6 = 4

Height = 6 

Therefore

Area

= 6x4/2

=12 m²

The answer is 10 meters

the triangle in the square has a height of 6 and a base of 2

12/2 =6

then the triangle has a base of 4 because 10-6=4 and I height of 2

8/2=4

finally add everything thing up 6+4=10
