You can find the perimeter of a triangle by using this formula:  P  =  2L + 2W

If the length is 5 cm more than twice the width, you have the equation:  L = 5 + 2W

Substituting 5 + 2W for L into the first equation:  P  = 2(5 + 2W) + 2W

Since P = 34                                                    34  =  2(5 + 2W) + 2W

                                                                      34  =  10 + 4W + 2W

                                                                      34  =  10 + 6W

                                                                      24  =  6W

                                                                        4  =  W

If W = 4, the L = 5 + 2W   --->   L  =  5 + 2(4)  =  13
