X = -2

Solve for x by simplifying both sides of the equation, then isolating the variable (x).

You want to isolate X, so put all numers to one side. 4-6=-2.

Now your equation is -2=x.

Check:

x+6=4

-2+6=4.

Correct! laugh

FINAL ANSWER: x = -2

Hope this helped!

Hi. Olivia :)

4=6+x

Is the same as

X+6=4

You need to get rid of the 6 to get x by itself.

-6 will work.

But if you -6 from the right side you must -6 from the left side too.

X+6-6=4-6

X= -2

Check

X+6=4

-2+6=4   yes it does !!   :D

Better explanation on how mayazhanmath's method worked.

4 = 6 + x

4 - 6 = 6 + x - 6

-2 = x

x = -2

Therefore x is -2.

Just be careful that (I don't know whether your teacher want to do so or not.) variables like x and y must be placed at the left hand side of the equal sign.
