The state police use the formula F = 75 + 5m to calculate the fine for speeding. The variable m represents the number of miles per hour over the speed limit the person was driving. Calculate the fine (F) for a driver traveling 50 mph in a 30 mph zone.

F = 75 + 5m     ......   m in this case  = 50- 30   = 20........so we have

F = 75 + 5(20)  =  75 + 100   = $175
