The Universe is 13.6 billion years old and life on earth has existed for 200 thousand years. How is it that if we were to squeeze the age of the uni. into 24 hours, humans were only created 4 seconds before midnight? When i try to calculate this all i get is 1.27. Thank you in advance
Geno I am not trying to be a smartass, but
$${\frac{{\mathtt{200\,000}}}{{\mathtt{13\,600\,000\,000}}}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{86\,400}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{108}}}{{\mathtt{85}}}} = {\mathtt{1.270\: \!588\: \!235\: \!294\: \!117\: \!6}}$$
That number is for modren humanoid primates. For any primate then it is about 4 to 5 seconds.
In one day there are 24 x 60 x 60 = 86 400 seconds.
Now, let's set up a proportion that will tell us how many seconds that human existence represents in one day:
200 000 / 13 600 000 000 = x / 86 400
x = 200 000 / 13 600 000 000 · 86 400 = 10.8 seconds (before midnight)
So, my answer doesn't agree with either of the two other answers ...
