A railway wagon with a mass of 20 tonnes is moving along a level track at 10 km/h when it collides and couples together with a second wagon with a mass of 25 tonnes moving in the same direction at 5km/h. If the two wagons couple together after the impact, what would be their common velocity?

Assuming momentum is conserved then:

m1v1 + m2v2 = (m1 + m2)vf

vf = (m1v1 + m2v2)/(m1 + m2)     Plug your numbers in here.

Yes.    m1*v1 + m2*v2
