Do you mean a 5% gradient

or

a 5 degree angle?

Hello anonymous!

To build a ramp at 5% angle to a 5 foot height. How long would the ramp be?

Right-angled triangle a, b, c.

The height is b.                                                     opposite side

b = 5 foot

The basis of the ramp is a.                                    adjacent side

The slope of the ramp is tan β = 5 % = 0,05.

a = b / tan β

a = 5 foot / 0,05 = 100 foot

The basis of the ramp is a = 100 foot.

The length of the ramp is c.                                   hypotenuse

c = √(a² + b²) = (√(100² + 5²)) foot = 100,125 foot

The length of the ramp is c = 100,125 foot
