Hmmm.... I come up with 8 and 1
a=1 b= -9 c =8
When you get an answer, you can substitute it back into the equation to see if it works ! Try again...you can do it
i guess im just a tinsy bit confused, I'm stuck at this part.."9 plus or minus a sqaure root of -113, divided by 2.
am i making in since at all? XD. I'm sorry, im really trying! it's just a bit confusing. :'(
Solve for x:
x^2-9 x+8 = 0
The left hand side factors into a product with two terms:
(x-8) (x-1) = 0
Split into two equations:
x-8 = 0 or x-1 = 0
Add 8 to both sides:
x = 8 or x-1 = 0
Add 1 to both sides:
Answer: | | x = 8 or x = 1
You make this seem so easy!! what grade are you in?! I can see where you've gotten your answer
If you're usin the Quadratic FOrmula you should get 9 + or - SQRT 49 NOT -113
under the sqrt sign should be b^2 - 4ac = (-9)^2 - 4(1)(8) Didi you get this???
= 81-32 = 49
Okkkii. Here's my issue. I plug this into the calculator: -9^2-4(1)(8) My answer when I enter it is -113. Am I not entering it correct?
* Blows kiss* THANK YOU! XD! that's what ive been doing wrong! Hopefully i'll be able to get the correct answers!
If you look ABOVE the calculator, you'll see that -9^2 enters as - (9^2) and THAT is where you are steering incorrectly!
personally, I think that is kind of a calculator glitch....but now that you know it is there you can watch what you are entering above the calculator to make sure it 'understands' what you are intending to enter.....
Thank you so so much for your help and patience! I greatly appreciate it. thank you for your time. :) i might have some questions later. thank you a lot! <3
