3(-3x - 1) - 9 = 5(x - 4)

Use the Distributive Property

-9x - 3 - 9 = 5x - 20

Simplify

-9x - 12 = 5x - 20

Add 9x to both sides

-12 = 14x - 20

Add 20 to both sides

8 = 14x

Divide by 14 on both sides

0.5714285714285714 = x

I would round

x = about 0.6

Solve for x:
3 (-1-3 x)-9 = -5 (x-4)

3 (-1-3 x) = -3-9 x:
-3-9 x-9 = -5 (x-4)

Add like terms. -9-3  =  -12:
Answer: |
| -12-9 x = -5 (x-4)          x=-8

Very good, sasefower....I might add one tiny thing.....

8 = 14x    divide both sides by 14

8 / 14 =    x    = 4 / 7

cool cool cool
