Translate into a variable equation AND solve: Twice the difference between four times a number and five is six. Find the number.

Let's take this in parts

"The difference between four times a number and 5"  = 4N - 5

And twice this  =  2(4N - 5)   = 6

So

2(4N - 5)  = 6     divide both sides by 2

4N - 5   =  3        add 5 to both sides

4N  =  8           divide both sides by 4

N  = 2
