The trapezoid shown has a height of length 12 cm, a base of length 16 cm, and an area of 162 cm^2 . What is the top edge of the trapezoid?

Area =  (1/2) Height  * (Sum of the Bases)

162  = (1/2) (12)  (16 + x)

162  =  6 (16 + x)

162 / 6  =  16 + x

27   = 16 + x

27 - 16  = 11 cm  =   x =  top edge
