In a right triangle, the side adjacent to an angle of 44 degrees is 45 cm. How long is the opposite side?

Why would the opposite side be the hypotenuse? If the opposite side was the hypotenuse that would mean that the given angle would have to be 90 degrees (this is a right triangle), which it isn't. That would mean that you would use tangent: opposite / adjacent.

tan(44) = x/45

x = 43.46cm

Sorry....my mistake you are correct!    the opposite side WOULD be another leg    D'Oh!

tan 44 = opp/adj = opp/45     opp = 43.46 cm
