Why would the opposite side be the hypotenuse? If the opposite side was the hypotenuse that would mean that the given angle would have to be 90 degrees (this is a right triangle), which it isn't. That would mean that you would use tangent: opposite / adjacent.
tan(44) = x/45
x = 43.46cm
