The hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle is 14 . How long is each leg of the triangle?     

 

     Imagine two more sides to make that triangle     

     into a square and that hypotenuse is a diagonal.     

 

     diagonal_square  =  side • sqrt(2)     

 

                      side  = 14 / sqrt(2)     the "side" here is the leg of the triangle     

 

                        leg  =  14 • sqrt(2) / 2     

 

                         leg  =  7 • sqrt(2)
