[Calculator Required] A biologist wants to know the width of a river in order to properly set instruments for studying pollutants in the water. From point A, the biologist walks downstream 100 feet and sights to point C. From this sighting, it is determined that \(m{\measuredangle}ABC=58^{o}\). How wide is the river?

Tangent of the angle ABC =AC / AB.

Tan(58) =AC / 100

1.60 = AC / 100    cross multiply

AC = 1.60 x 100 = 160 feet - the width of the river.
