A kite is tethered to a stake in the ground by a string 40 ft. lon , which makes an angle of 60 degrees with the ground. How high is the kite?

We know the hypotenuse - 40 - and an angle = 60. And we're looking for the opposite side. The sine relates these......so we have

sine 60 = opp / 40

(√3/2) *40  = opp = 20√3 ft. = about 34.64 ft.
