from a point 20.75 feet above surface of the water, the angle of elevation of a building at the edge of the water is 18 degrees 16 minutes, while the angle of depression of its image in the water is 56 degrees 28'. find the height of the building and the horizontal distance from the point of observation.

h = height of building

d = horizontal distance

 

h - 20.75 = d*tan(18+16/60)

 

h+ 20.75 = d*tan(56+28/60)

 

Subtract the first from the second to find d, then substitute the result into either one of the above to find h.
