During WWII, German U-boats would dive 150 meters below the surface. If an enemy ship was 330 meters away on the surface, what angle, in radians, should the U-boat shoot to hit the ship?
I learned this a while ago, and I don't really remember, but hopefully this is correct!
tan x = 330/150
tan^-1(330/150) = x
65.556045219583 = x
65.6 = x
(I put the whole answer before rounding because I'm not sure what it asks you to round to)
We just want the angle of elevation from the U-Boat to the ship.....this is given by:
arctan(150/330) = about 24.44° = about 0.4266 rads
