if a ladder should not be set up at an angle greater than 75 degrees or less than 45 degrees, what range of height can a 25 foot ladder reach

We can solve this as follows, where h is the height we are looking for.....we know the angle and the hypotenuse of a right triangle......and in both cases, we're looking for the opposite side....so the sine function will help us.....

 

sin 45  =  h/25  →   h  = 25sin45

 

And

 

sin 75  = h/25  → h =  25sin75

 

 

So.......we're looking for

 

25sin45 < h < 25 sin75   =  

 

17.68 ft < h < 24.15  ft
