two angles are supplementary if their sum is 180 degrees. the larger angle measures 5 degrees more than 4 times the measure of a smaller angle

Call the measure of the smaller angle M

Then the measure of the lareger angle is 4M + 5

So we have

M + (4M + 5) = 180  

5M + 5 = 180     subtract 5 from both sides

5M = 175          divide both sides by 5

M = 35 that's the smaller angle

And 4(35) + 5 = 145    and that's the larger angle
