two rectangles are similar. One has a length of 10 cm and a width of 8 cm, and the other has a width of 7 cm. Find the length of the second rectangle. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary.
We have
8/10 = 7/x cross-multiply
8x = 70 divide each side by 8
x = 70/8 = 8.75 = 8.8 (rounded)
11.4 is the answer
I thought the rectangles are equal in length. 8*10=80
7*11.4=80. (11.4 is rounded)
Think of it this way, happy7
The rectangles are similar
Note that the width of the first, 8, x 1.25 = its length = 10
So...the width of the second, 7, x 1.25 = its length = 8.75 (or, 8.8, rounded)
Does that make sense??
