If you draw a point where they started, a point where the one moving north is, and a point where the one moving east is, these three points will form a triangle with a right angle at the point where they started.

You can use the Pythagorean Theorem to calculator their distance apart. One leg is 20, another leg is 15 and the hypotenuse is the unknown distance.

Pythagorean Theorem:  c²  =  a² + b²

where c is the length of the hypotenuse (the unknown) and a and b are the known legs:

 c²  =  a² + b²   --->    c²  =  20² + 15²   --->    c²  =  400 + 225   --->    c²  =  625   --->  c  =  √625

     --->   c  =  25
