Divide the 2nd term by the 1st term to get the common ratio:

-1/5=-1/5 This is the common ratio. Then just multiply this common ratio by each term to get the next one and so on......1/125 X -1/5 =-1/625...........1/3125.......and so on.

looking at the information you have given me, for the very first part, we can organise the equation as such,

5*y=-1

solving for y we need to divide both sides by 5, giving

y= -1/5

if we subsitute -1/5 for y into the rest of the sequence we get the pattern, such as -1*-1/5= 1/5

1/5*-1/5=-1/25

-1/25* -1/5= 1/125

Now all you need to do to find the next 3 in the sequence is multiply the previous number by -1/5.

so the next one would be 1/125* -1/5= -1/625

Hope this helps ;)

5,-1,1/5,-1/25,1/125

The ratio of the second term to the first =  -1/5

And the third to the second is :  [1/5] / -1   =  -1/5

So, each successive term is -1/5 times the previous...so...the next three terms are :

-1/625 , 1/3125 , - 1/ 15625

cool cool cool
