for this one i added the i vectors and j vectors together which gave me
(2+q)i + (5+q)j
i assumed the vector 1i-2j starts from origin so i used tan^-1 1/-2 to get my angle of 22.5
then i stopped at tan^-1 5+q/2+p

I think you meant to put (2+p)i + (5+q)j (you have q in both terms!).
