rainfall = 1.2cm = 0.012m Everything has to be in the same units.

Volume of water collected on the rooftop = 55 x 0.012 = 0.66m 3

When this water goes into the cylinder
Volume = area of base * height
0.66 = 9*pi*height
0.66/(9*pi) = height
height = 0.0233427m = 2.3 cm (correct to 2 sig figures)
