What are the solutions to the equation f(x)=g(x)?

             f(x)  =  g(x)

               2x  =  x² - 3

                 0  =   x² - 2x - 3

                 0  =  (x - 3)(x + 1)

       Either  x - 3  =  0     or     x + 1  =  0

                        x  =  3     or           x  =  -1
