'guest' accounts cannot upvote your answers.....but YOU can upvote yourself one heart for good answers.....you can also be 'downvoted' which may happen if you rpovide nothing but an answer with no derivation or an incorrect answer.... I just 'upvoted' your last post ..... see?

No, he meant the hearts near the profile pictures, not the hearts that people can upvote or downvote. I think you earned them if you answer questions or ask questions. Here is an eg, CPhill has the most hearts, so In first, and then it goes down the list

You may be 58th but I do not think that is closely correlated with popularity. I'll explain.
People who have not been active for over a month lose their spot (they get it back if they sign on again)
Out of the people who have been active in the last month, you are 58th with regards to how many points you have scored over all time.
So it is a measure of how active you are and how long you have been using this site more than of how popular you are. If you are popular or you give yourself a million points (like some people do - but it's not a good look) then this will boost your placement as well.
