HI, I need help to explain me what does this interecept means?

because I actually find the answer but I can't explain what does they means /: weird right ?

Find the horizontal and verti a interecept for each ! ( this I already did and found the answer )

EXPLAIN in the context what does the horizontal and vertical interecept means :( I did not find :( I need help

1. An olive garden has determined by market research that the amount of Never ending Pasta bowls it sells, P(x), is related to the price x by the following function :

P(x) = - 2000x + 50000

So horizontal : ( -0.04, 0 )

Vertical : ( 0,50000 )

What do they means ?

2. Betty is having a brownie bake sale to support her Beanie baby club. She has determined that the money she will make from the bake sale, B(x), is related to x, the number of brownies she will sell, according to the following function :

B(x) = 0.5x - 10

So vertical : ( 0,10 )

Horizontal : ( 0.05, 0 )

What do they means ???

3. and Lats promise ! Party city knows that the amount of Halloween costumes they sell, H(p) is related to the price per costume, P according to the folloing function ;

H(p) = 11000 - 200p

So horizontal : ( 55,0)

Vertical ( 0,11000 )

BUT WHAT DO THEY MEANS sadangelblush

Thank you so much for your help !

Here's (1)

When the price = $0, they would sell the most pasta bowls - i.e., 50000......[this isn't very realistic  !!!]  ....this is the vertical [ y ] intercept  (0, 50000)

When the price is rased to  $25 per bowl, their sales are 0........this is the horizontal [ x ] intercept..(25, 0).....[ this isn't realistic,either ] .....

Here's the graph......https://www.desmos.com/calculator/qa2yjbairx

Hello,

May I ask where did you get the 25 from ?

I got -0.04 for the horizontal interecept ?

Bets and Thank you

The horizontal intercept is where P(x) = 0....so

0 = - 2000x + 50000    add 2000x to both sides

2000x = 50000    divide both sides by 2000

x = 25

Look at the graph........the point (25, 0)  is the horizontal [x] intercept

Here is the graph of (2) .....the intercepts should be pretty clear.....

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/dg5hplo4jf

For (2),  the vertical intercept occurs at (0, -10).....this means that it must have cost $10 to make the brownies, so, if she doesn't sell any, she loses $10.......the horizontal intercept at (20,0) means that she will have to sell 20 brownies at .50 each to cover her expenses [ the $10 ]

For (3), you have the intercepts correct......(0, 11000) means that, if the costumes were free, they would "sell" all 11000 in stock.....[not realistic]

(55, 0)   means that if they price each costume at $55, they won't sell any......!!!!!
