n stands for any number. p stands for permutations. r stands for set or sets to be selected from n. Example: 26P3, or how many 3 letters of the alphabet can you combine out of the 26 letters, without repeating the letters, such as:AAA. Remember that order is important: ABC is not the same as ACB.
