What does use a unit rate to find the unknown value mean.
Just say you can buy 10 apples for $18.00
and you want to know how much 3 apples cost.
Well you could find the price of a unit ( that is one apple because unit means 1 )
1 apple would cost $18.00/10 = $1.80
so the unit rate of apples is $1.80
that is the same as saying $1.80/apple
so 3 apples would cost 3 * $1.80 = $5.40
