We have:  \(17\frac{5}{8}=-2(x+15)\)

Express the left-hand side as an improper fraction: \(\frac{141}{8}=-2(x+15)\)

Divide both sides by -2:   \(x+15=-\frac{141}{16}\)

Subtract 15 from both sides:  \(x =-15-\frac{141}{16}=-23\frac{13}{16}\)
