(2x)² = (2x) · (2x) = (2·2) · (x·x) = 4x²

However, this really isn't "a power to a power".

An example of a power to a power is  (x³)² which becomes (x³)·(x³) which is (x·x·x)·(x·x·x)=x^6.

Rule: when taking a power to a power, multiply the exponents.
