3x*4=50

12x=50

x=50/12 = 25/6 = 4 and 1/6

its an equation

but seriously

3x*4=50

divvy up the sides by 4

3x*4 = 50/4
   /4

3x=12.5

then by three

x= $${\frac{{\mathtt{12.5}}}{{\mathtt{3}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{25}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}} = {\mathtt{4.166\: \!666\: \!666\: \!666\: \!666\: \!7}}$$

if youre quick with mental math you can see

3x*4 = 3*4x and then do

x=50/12 and get the same answer but im not :\
