what is 4 x 8- - 6 is it 38? that was what i thought but the answer turns out to be 44!

$${\mathtt{4}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{8}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}\left({\mathtt{6}}\right) = {\mathtt{38}}$$

4*8- - 6 = 38        (-)*(-)=(+)    8  - - 6  is not right!   better  8-(-6) = 8+6 =14
