what is a negative subtracted from a negative?

Could be a positive or a negative....it depends on the ABSOLUTE VALUE of the original number and the number being subtracted.

In    -a  - (-b) = ?

if |a| > |b|  the answer will be NEGATIVE

if |a| < |b|  the answer will be POSITIVE
