What is the equation of a line that passes through the point (8, 1) and is perpendicular to the line whose equation is y=−2/3x+5?

y=−2/3x+5

 

A line perpendicular to this will have a negative reciprocal slope, i.e.,  3/2

 

So   we have

 

y  =  (3/2)(x  - 8)  +  1

 

y  =  (3/2)x  - 12  +  1

 

y  =  (3/2)x  - 11
