e^(3x + 5)   = 9       since "e" is involved, take the natural log of each side

 

Ln  e^(3x + 5)   = Ln 9      and we can write

 

(3x + 5) * Ln e   =    Ln 9        Ln e   = 1....so we can ignore this

 

3x + 5   =   Ln 9       subtract 5 from both sides

 

3x   =  Ln 9 -  5       divide both sides by 3

 

x  =   Ln 9 - 5

         ______
