Sorry anon but you have found the mean (average)  NOT the median (middle)

-7,-1,0,8,4,2,-7, 2

line them up in oder

-7,-7,-1,0,2,2,4,8

The median is the middle score.  Here there are 2 middle scores so the median will be the averagae of them.

median=(0+2)/2=2/2=1

The median is 1

$${\frac{\left({\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{7}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{1}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{8}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{4}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{7}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{0}}\right)}{{\mathtt{8}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{1}}}{{\mathtt{8}}}} = {\mathtt{0.125}}$$
