We can reverse the question so we start with -36.

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{36}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{7}} = -{\mathtt{43}}$$

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{43}}}{{\mathtt{4}}}} = -{\mathtt{10.75}}$$

So the number is -10.75

We can check by doing it forwards again.

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}\left({\mathtt{10.75}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{4}}\right) = -{\mathtt{43}}$$

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{43}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{7}} = -{\mathtt{36}}$$
