Take the two points ....slope = rise/run  =  (y1-y2)   /  (x1-x2)

    =   (8- -4) / (-1-2) =  12/ -3 = -4

The formula for calculating slope is \(\frac {y2 - y1} {x2-x1}\) . So we have \(\frac{-4-8}{2-(-1)} = \frac {-12}{3} = \frac{-4}{1} = -4\)
