This says that if we put -6 into the function for x, it returns a value of -1......so we have

(-6)^3 + k(-6)^2 + 7(-6)+ 5   = -1    simplify

-216 + 36k - 42  + 5 = -1

-253 + 36k = -1

36k = 252

k = 7
