How do I find out what the value of w in this equation: (w+2) (w-5)= w (squared) - 4

Solve for w:
(w-5) (w+2) = w^2-4

Expand out terms of the left hand side:
w^2-3 w-10 = w^2-4

Subtract w^2-4 from both sides:
-6-3 w = 0

Factor constant terms from the left hand side:
-3 (w+2) = 0

Divide both sides by -3:
w+2 = 0

Subtract 2 from both sides:
Answer: | 
| w = -2
